    3. Facit 624-25, H203-204; Scott ( ) 1968. Three hundredth anniversary of the Sveriges Riksbank. On this occasion the Economics Prize in memoriam of Alfred Nobel was organized. It has been awarded annually starting in 1969. Stamp motiv: Seal of the bank.

    4. The Nobel Forum building in Stockholm is represented in a stylised manner as the cachet on the 1996 Nobel FDC. The architect was Johan Celsing.

  3. The Award Ceremonies

    1. Facit 241, H 27. The Stock Exchange, meeting place for the Swedish Academy.

      "The Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm has, almost without exception, taken place at the Stockholm Concert Hall (Stockholms Konserthus) since 1926...The Ceremony is followed by a banquet at the Stockholm City Hall (Stockholms Stadshus) for about 1,300 people, including 250 students. With a few exceptions, the Nobel Banquet has taken place at the City Hall since 1930." - from the Nobel Foundation web site.

    2. Facit 196-207, Scott 197-208, 212 (1924) World Postal Congress shows the tower of the City Hall in a composite skyscape of the towers of Stockholm. There are 12 face different stamps, 13 Scott major numbers, and a total of 14 counting Scott 202a, a color variety.

    3. Facit 861-864, 883-886, H273; Scott 1041-1048, 1044a (1974) Stockholmia '74 philatelic exhibition. These 8 stamps, 4 miniature sheets, and booklet, recycled the 1924 UPU design showing the tower of the Stockholm city hall.

      Facit 240 shows the old city hall (1732-1915). The connection of this building to the banquet is unknown.

    I don't know if the King has always awarded the prize. I would suggest that a Nobel collection contain only a representative sample of the stamps for each king. Perhaps just one for each king not represented on a stamp showing the award. Chagun a san gout.

    NOTES The 1996 Nobel stamps came with a label attached at the right. It has a white background upon which a blue rectangle is printed with drop out lettering saying "PRIORTAIRE / 1:a-klassbrev". This means First Class Letter. According to the "Bulletin" #6 for 1996 "[t]his is a special discount offer for Swedes who want to send postcards or letters to Europe or the rest of the world. Instead of the regular postage (SEK6.00 or 7.50) a postcard or letter up to 20g will only cost SEK5 anywhere in the world. The offer only stands until 31 December 1996." (p9)
